Kick-off Meeting of the FAIR research initiative

Lao Social Research is proud to have participated in the Kick-off Meeting of the Fair, Inclusive and Sustainable Energy Transition in Lao PDR (FAIR) research initiative.

This collaborative project brings together the University of Turku (Finland Futures Research Centre), Lao Social Research, the National University of Laos, and the Ministry of Energy and Mines.

Running from March 2025 to December 2026, the FAIR project aims to strengthen social equity in the development and implementation of energy policies in Lao PDR.

A particular focus is placed on ensuring that marginalised groups—including women, youth, the elderly, persons with disabilities, and ethnic minorities are fully included and empowered in the country’s sustainable energy transition.

The project will apply a combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods, including community consultations, futures workshops, and innovative tools such as the Sustainability Window and Doughnut Economy frameworks. These approaches will help generate practical policy frameworks and participatory models that support inclusive and just energy transitions.
